An almost 40 years and three generations of people long story; a story of people who first set up the restaurant, then the hotel, and the wine bar in Stoja, an area of the city of Pula. This is today a location that leaves a powerful impression once inside and seated. The restaurant was built in 1967 and a beautiful olive tree in the middle of it is a true witness of this fairy tale.

"Milan" is mostly a fish restaurant and is pretty difficult to reject a bundle of ideas offered by an incredibly polite waiter if you have set your mind firmly on goulash made of boškarin beef with gnocchi because this is what you dreamt of several days before coming to Istria. But before this, you are in for another delight – a couvert with cheese, bruschetta with spicy tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil of the house, as well as some homemade black olives you cannot seem to stop eating. Tiny, crackling, juicy, aromatic – a thrill!

The restaurant’s offer includes fish soup and vegetable minestrone, and as a starter you will be immediately offered a seafood platter – octopus, anchovies, squids. The plates are not as “designed” as one would think a restaurant of this category would have but the quality of dishes and portions – by no means lag behind. Finally, after the olives, there comes the boškarin beef goulash with gnocchi. Small size gnocchi, but fantastic, meat and sauce are more than goods and luckily, we managed to get hold of some more olives. A selection of wines is huge but also mostly classic.

What bedazzles in "Milan" the most, with the olive tree of course, which stands tall and proud in the middle of the restaurant, are definitely the cakes – signature of the owner’s wife. Once you have finished the meal, a cart with six types of lovely cakes, pies, pastries with various fillings, mostly with seasonal fruits, arrive to your table and every woman immediately faints upon this sighting. Some men, too.

Good portions, nice atmosphere, smiling, polite, and a bit expensive - "Milan" is a definitely place to visit.
