Davor Restaurant

Hvar is one of the champions of the Croatian tourism, an island in the central part of which life is constantly bustling and fun never stops. However, only half an hour drive by car or boat from the town of Hvar, a restaurant, Davor, is located on the south side of the island, in a completely different place. Actually, in Zavala everything is somehow lazy and slow, quiet and beautiful, mostly the Mediterranean as it used to be.
Boasting a view of the beautiful islands of Korčula and Šćedro, unpretentious and tidy beach bars and some kind of incredible warmth, the greatest value of this place is still people, like those who run the Davor Restaurant. A family story with two brothers in the kitchen, Krišto and Grga, the restaurant is meticulously arranged observing the tiniest detail and including Dalmatian traditional ornaments as well as a room dedicated to their greatest love – the Hajduk football club. Wonderful, like a small museum! Decent, decorous and pleasant, less than fifty meters away from the sea, the Davor allowed us to experience everything that diligent hands can make using a maximum of local ingredients and nurturing to the extreme limits the authentic island expression in their preparation.

The Davor is not only a seafood restaurant as it could be concluded because of the proximity of the sea and the beautiful Mediterranean ambience. Although it is really based on freshly fished clams, crabs and fish from the local aquatory, and the starters (smoked tuna, marinated bonito ...) are also chosen accordingly, there is also strong emphasis on local prosciutto and various types of cheese as well as superb wines from the island that has been far known by them for centuries.
On recommendation of a very attentive staff, we took homemade pasta with prawns and zucchini for the starter. The dish is excellent and deserves any praise and is absolutely genuine for this area. In fact, hardly does anybody move away from the classics while at the Davor, they dare to mix the ingredients in a way that induces you to think at first, and then, with the first bite, to totally fall in love with them. Phenomenal homemade pasta, and fresh zucchini and parsley from their own garden matched perfectly Bogdanjuša Carić, light, fragrant, true summer wine.

Although they are renowned for their special kebabs that they stick through a sprig of rosemary and serve with the local Plavac Zlatan Otok wine, we anyway chose to complement the light and delicate gregada full of taste and scent of the sea, and swordfish “steaks” with a blend of Hvar varieties, Huljić Maestral. Fresh, juicy, delicious, yet another proof that it is best to eat fish when it is fresh, especially when you add a sea view to it.
In the end, we got the authentic rožata ( Dalmatian custard pudding similar to flan and crème brûlée). and Opolo Nobile from Tomić Winery. Pure perfection for a day that immediately afterwards became ideal for slow swimming and enjoying the beautiful nature.
The Barbić family has retold their wonderful gastronomic story for 40 years and stood behind their every ingredient. They do not hide their satisfaction with the always crowded restaurant, so they invite you, with their smiling, loud and unforgettable team to come to Hvar such you have not imagined next year and every other year. A gastronomic paradise! The Davor is really a restaurant which you will talk about frequently and enthusiastically, and therefore we give most sincere recommendations.
