The slopes of Bilogora, Papuk and Psunj in western Slavonia have been covered in grape vine since ancient times. The Daruvar Winery encompasses 160 hectares where they grow the best Welschriesling (graševina), Sauvignon and Chardonnay under the Vezak label.
Vezak graševina (Welschriesling) 2017 won the bronze medal at this year’s Decanter and it has been made from selected grape from the best positions and is characterised by a distinct combination of intense fragrances and light, fruity aromas of peach, apple and pear. The slogan “beauty of blending” perfectly describes this palatable and rounded wine.
Apart from the blend of wine production tradition dating back to ancient time and modern vinification, this slogan also conjures up images of having a great time in good company. This wine doesn’t even have to leave your table because it goes well with fish and white meat dishes, as well as risottos, salads and cheeses.
The Daruvar Winery boasts one of Croatia’s best Sauvignon wines which has been winning awards and blowing winelovers’ minds for about ten years now with its freshness, pronounced yet inconspicuous acids, a strong flavour and rich elderberry, black currant and citrus fruit aromas on the nose. It goes great with strong dishes such as duck or goose foi gras, ripe cow or goat cheese, but it can also be nicely paired with shellfish, gilt-head bream or sea bass seafood specialties and it’ll do just fine when paired with veal.
The Donji Daruvar and Đulovac positions possess exceptional microclimate conditions. Apart from Welschriesling and Sauvignon, they also grow Rheinriesling and Chardonnay, while we wholeheartedly recommend Daruvar Riesling, an archive semi-sweet white wine from 1990.
You can enjoy these wines in the breath-taking ambiance of castle Janković, especially during the traditional wine customs festivities of Saint Martin and Saint Vincent respectively.
