Lika’s House

Creating a unique space in which guests would be presented with autochthonous dishes in a traditional interior typical of the Lika area was the idea that led in 1972 to the opening of Lička Kuća, a restaurant located right at the entrance into Plitvice Lakes National Park.
This idea lingered on although Kuća was refurbished and reopened in 2015. The original Lika rustic style was respected, exhibiting an open fireplace and a modern kitchen. The air-conditioned space of the restaurant has been divided into four parts with a seating capacity of 270. Visitors can here see a number of items that were once used in everyday lives of Lika families.

The restaurant offers specialities of the Lika area: recipes once used to prepare dishes with ingredients that are still available in the surrounding villages. Prosciutto, sausages, skewered lamb, Lika style lamb soup, potato halves, all types of meat with potatoes made under peka (iron lid), trout, soured milk, Lika style donuts, cheese or apple strudels. Bread is baked under peka and is homemade.

The offer of drinks is nothing short of the variety of the offer of dishes: and so, as per a Lika tradition, a little bit of grappa must be sipped before the meal, and one should indulge in a glass of wine or another drink of choice with and after the meal. A warm welcome to guests are two types of bread with cheese spread on top, Lika soup with several types of meat, and a very nice boiled trout with Swiss chard and potatoes.

The ambience is really lovely and if there were more room on the terrace in the summer, the overall impression would be even better.
