Benvenuti Wines Z.T.O Benvenuti

Rating
Istra.

Livio Benvenuti and his sons Albert and Nikola from Kaldir, a place on the hill across from Motovun, are multiple winners of acknowledgements at Vinistra for the best Malvasia. This is due to the father and sons’ great love of grapes and wine, as well as the excellent location where they have their vineyards. They are at a great altitude, between 350 and 400 metres above the sea, and on the white Istrian land which gives the wines a unique minerality.

Besides the young Malvasia that every year wins with its charm and freshness, Benvenuti make a great mature, very complex Istrian Malvasia Anno Domini, and (that) the sweet San Salvatore which took its name from the vineyard’s location. Malvasia is the basic sort and in the base of the sweet house wine, which is called Corona Grande, with Muscat and an old local sort. The San Salvatore Muscat also has an exceptional sweetness.

Many good wine connoisseurs have praised the Terans in the Benvenuti wine cellar. They mature for 24 months in wooden barrels and so they develop long-standing wines, which in the bottles, in good conditions, with age just get better and better. Not older…

Description:

The story of the Benvenuti winery is a story of family, tradition and terroir. We are situated in the quiet Istrian village of Kaldir, overlooking nearby Motovun, where we grow three grape sorts – Istrian Malvasia, Teran and Muscat. Throughout history, these sorts have been giving the best results in Istria and it is therefore our intention to use the advantages of this unique territory sustainably, and to be grateful for being a small part of it.

Family values and tradition are the key "flavour" of Benvenuti wines. On these foundations we produce wines which in their grape variety reflect the abundance of our vineyards, located in several specific micro-locations. One of them, San Salvatore, is the heart of our sorts. The terraced configuration and the white soil, along with the special micro-climate conditions, give the grapes here a character which is reflected in the wine in a prominent minerality, freshness and full expression of all the characteristics of the sorts. These characteristics are present in all our wines, from the basic matured Malvasias, to the fresh harmonious Terans, to the intensive and pleasant acidity of the richly sweet wines.

The result of the focus on the micro-locations and indigenous sorts, along with hard and honest work, the wines are recognised both on the market and by the profession. Bits of our story are found in every Benvenuti bottle, as a reflection of the philosophy that the wine is just like the person who stands behind it. In this way we want to convey the land on which and from which we live to every wine lover. Ideally, we would like to do this amongst the ripe grapes of our vineyards, the cellar, tasting room or, even, the accommodation for those guests whose want to enjoy Benvenuti wines and the experience for more than one day.
For us, wine has always been inseparable from life. We also want to share a part of the passion with you!
