Situated in an excellent location in Zagreb’s most beautiful building, Zinfandel's is famous as one of the most elite restaurants of the Croatian metropolis. The view on the terrace with oleander and olive trees is something unique, combined with the light jazz in the background – at the table you’d expect Hemingway himself. Or at least Agatha Christie…

The high ceilings, massive chandeliers, ambience, elegance, all of the highest level, and so is the menu, firmly bound and tuned to perfection. And on it all kinds of things fine, tasty and you just read… Zinfandel's is based on modern light and healthy dishes inspired by Californian cooking, and the menu has been put together by the famous chef Ana Grgić.

If you are not attracted by red shrimp, smoked mussels or crabmeat as a fish starter, there is also goose liver mousse, goat’s curd or fried beef brain. The clear fish soup with clams and spring vegetables is like the best served in the history of soup! As though you are eating from a wonderful giant limpet…

The menu changes with the seasons, but some of the winning combinations, logically – do not change. With a reason. So from the main courses on offer are mullet with cream of nettle or turbot fillet, as well as lamb fillet sous vide with a mousse of black garlic and lightly roasted quail breast. If you are not open to surprises, there is always Black Angus striploin with new potatoes and corn roasted in charcoal and pine nut cream.

Ana Grgić is particularly proud of her sweets about which you are not sure if they are the most beautifully designed, served or tasty. Generally, art on a plate.

Zinfandel's is an elite place, a glass of wine from the brutally good wine list from local as well as world wines is a minimal 60 kunas, a main course over 150, but at least you know where you are and why you came. A place worthy of Europe and the world, a restaurant where you really will feel noble. Even more when the pianist starts to play live, what splendour… You simply must have it on your gastronomic CV!

Restaurant description:

Restaurant Zinfandel's impressive and stylish space, completely renovated in 2004 when the hotel Esplanade Zagreb as part of it. Its unique atmosphere and cuisine combining top-quality home-made ingredients and flavors from around the world guarantee the gastronomic delight in the very heart of Zagreb.

It was named after the grape variety zinfandel, which was transferred from Dalmatia to the USA at the beginning of the 19th century. Under the name of zinfandel sorta, the Kaštelanski crljenak was exported from the Viennese Emperor of the State of Chicago to the United States, where he has a great popularity today. So this wine is a symbol of the interrelationship of cultures encountered in the Zinfandel's restaurant kitchen. Vinova loza is also a trademark of a restaurant, and in 2013, the famous Croatian winery, Mr. Vlado Krauthaker, gave the hotel and restaurant a couple of jewelers of the zinfandel, which today is carefully nurtured in the Oleander terrace garden.

Awards and recognitions:

In 2005 and 2008 the Večernji List newspaper awarded Zinfandel's the acknowledgment as one of the best restaurants. In 2011, the restaurant received the prestigious Great Rail Journeys Gold Food award, which is awarded according to the choice and reviews of the guests who stayed in the hotel. For five years in a row Zinfandel's has been awarded the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence, the world’s greatest tourist service for evaluating the quality of tourist services and so in 2015 it was included in the prestigious TripAdvisor Hall of Fame. Riso Gallo, the Italian gourmet guide, in several of his editions included Zinfandel's risotto in the 101 best in the world. The specialist food magazine Akademija awarded the restaurant a special acknowledgment, whilst the food guide 100 najboljih restorana u Hrvatskoj (100 Best Restaurants in Croatia) included Zinfandel’s many times amongst the best in Croatia.
