Situated on a hill above Krapinska Thermal Spa, Villa Magdalena immediately captivates you with a view of the Zagorje hills and of a modern swimming facility across the road. It includes a hotel, a restaurant and a wellness center in one complex, which are one of the reasons for spending a weekend here. But the best reasons are the menu and wine list that by themselves are more than interesting.

Magdalena does not want to be a common and classic story. It is intended for the enjoyment of traditional homemade Zagorje food that in a modern way is proudly authored in a modern way by the well-known chef Mislav Božić. The result has been praiseworthy recognition, such as 14 points and two caps from Gault Millau, constant inclusion in the selection of the best Croatian restaurants, and medals from the competition for Master Chef Zagorje.
The restaurant also has vegetarian and gluten-free specialties. We recommend risotto and noodles with domestic porcini, bacon, and smoked cheese as a starter. You will also find the ever-present štrukli, prepared in all possible ways, as well as pumpkin seed oil. Several types of soup are based on local ingredients that are purchased from a nearby family farm. We want to single out the Habsburg soup, chicken soup with saffron, and cream of pumpkin soup with fried bacon. And to its creator – hats off!

The main courses, as befits a restaurant in Zagorje, are mostly meat, so that with rump steak and beef you can combine many things, even a sauce of forest fruits. Breast of duck in a mushroom sauce with vegetables is tender, tasty and on the edge of rapture. The portions are not huge, but you will definitely spend a great deal of time in photographing and admiring what you order.

The wine list is also not large, but it fully represents all of Croatia, while the local vintners are represented by Petrač and Bolfan. The desserts are, again, a phenomenal expression of the chef's creativity, dominated by the cake called A Taste of Zagorje and homemade ice cream with a topping of pumpkin seed oil.

The comfortable, warm, elegant, design oasis among the Zagorje hills called Villa Magdalena is a place where you should bring friends who will enjoy the free jazz and the excellent food and drink. Bravo.
