One of the many restaurants with a story and history is Cantinetta, located a few hundred metres from the main beach, however it is well protected from the surrounding area by a wall. The terrace is tidy and comfortable, ideal for contemplation over a good meal.

Even though we had to wait a bit for the waiter and the meal to come, with the sounds of Eros Ramazzotti and the Italian chansons, and selected local wines (hey, people, Sladić and Bibić are around the corner!) time passed quickly. Especially when you knew that one or the rarest Croatian specialties was waiting for you, something that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. It is of course the čokalice - Mediterranean sand smelt fish from the brackish water that tastes like fried sushi. Perfection.

Cantinetta is famous for its Skradin risotto, but also for specialties based on everything that swims. Their grey mullet is widely known, with a perfect taste that only an absolutely clean environment can provide. The fresh, white meat is a total contrast to the other specialty - roast cuttlefish.

Scallops as a starter are fantastic and filling, and a quality selection of other shellfish, as well as fish, beefsteaks and lamb await you. All of that at normal prices for such service, and truly top specialties.

The fresh Debit Bedrica wine accompanies the fish menu nicely, the cuttlefish is perfectly salted with a full bodied aroma of the wood where it was baked, the grey mullet from Prokljan Lake is wild, intriguing, you would hardly recognise what is it about, just like with Mediterranean sand smelt fish, and this is the greatest quality of Cantinetta.

The tiramisu cake at the end, another look at the birch trees and the brick wall, a sip of the local wine, we take a glimpse of the olive oil served in a stone container with the motif of an eagle...

It is time for a swim, or at least to relax by the beautiful lake, thinking about Mediterranean sand smelt fish, cuttlefish, and grey mullets. Hopefully they are not vengeful - Cantinetta is a pure culinary pleasure.
