Soup, veal medallions in a mushroom sauce and seasonal salad, are one of the four menus for adults on offer as a family lunch which on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the Terasa Restaurant in Daruvar costs just thirty kunas. The children’s menu is almost half the price, and they also have a family menu for four, two adults and two children, from just ninety kunas. These are excellent prices for the fine food in the beautiful setting of Julije’s Park in which the first tree was planted by Antun Janković about 1762, and his successors Izidor and Julije, from whom the park took its name, continued to care for it.

The terrace of the same named restaurant opens up to the health resort gardens and it is really wonderful to enjoy the freshness provided by the centuries old plane trees, wild chestnuts and hornbeam, and the other sixty species of plants.

The food and wine are also to be enjoyed. It is clear that in the old winery town they recommend the local wines of the Daruvar Winery, whose most beautiful part is in the Janković family castle, and the largest vineyard in nearby Đulovac. Allegedly, the vines that were planted in a single row grew from Daruvar to Vienna.

And amongst them most were, of course, Graševina. This lovely wine really accompanied the vineyard steak, a pork cutlet wrapped in cornflour, baked and sautéed in a vegetable sauce and garnished with grapes that nicely refreshed and sweetened the dish. The wine sauce that was poured over the pancakes filled with walnuts was also probably made with Graševina.

The Terasa Restaurant is part of the Daruvar thermal spa, a health resort complex where people from various countries come and so the choice of food must also be varied and suitable for everyone. So they offer seafood and sea fish, Zagorje strudels, international favourites such as pastas, risottos and Chateaubriand.

Also on the menu are local Slavonian dishes, from steaks, freshwater fish to wild game. For centuries members of the Czech minority have lived in Daruvar and so over time their traditional cooking has filtered into the existing Croatian cuisine. So here you can try authentic dishes such as šufnudli (typical homemade gnocchi) with poppy seeds, steamed dumplings, potato pancakes and so on.

In the sea of excellent dishes from various types of meats filled with cold cuts, cheese, mushrooms, the freshness of Missa Maja, a turkey steak filled with cheese, ham, bacon and tomatoes, grilled and served with a sunny side up egg is delicious.

Restaurant description:

The Terasa Restaurant is located in the central part of Julije’s Park and stands out with its archaic flair and historical value. The history of the restaurant itself stretches back to the beginning of the 20th century, in 1912, with the construction of the kiosk-café in the spa garden, with a view of the monumental building of the central mud bathing area built in 1909 in the Moorish style. It has a spacious dancefloor and outdoor terrace with garden furniture.
They prepare traditional Slavonian and Czech specialities, dishes of wild game and dishes according to nutritional recommendations.
