Stara Kužina

The menu is not that comprehensive, but it’s intended for the entire family and those who want to try a special Dalmatian delicacy. As far as appetizers are concerned, you can choose from Pag cheese, prosciutto and octopus salad, as well as a cold platter (seafood delicacies plate). You also have the shrimp, courgette and Parmesan cheese cream soup that collides with the fish soup “Stara kužina”. A pretty difficult choice indeed. Eventually we opted for the gnocchi with cuttlefish and roasted broad bean. The dish is phenomenal, it’s rather seasoned, dark, with elastic and sufficiently hard homemade gnocchi and nice cuttlefish chunks. If you love broad beans, the world is yours as you enjoy Istrian Malvasia specially ordered for the tavern.

Peka dishes are one of the things they’re proud of and rightfully so. The prepare cuttlefish, lamb, veal and octopus, but a prior reservation is needed because they’re better when the weather is colder. So we opted for the tenderloin stuffed with Nin šokol (special local kind of smoked neck) and Pag cheese. The red house wine, recommended by the extremely pleasant staff, is a local Merlot that went great with a rather ample meal. Stara kužina is a place where it’s really an excellent sight to watch as your order is roasted on gradele before your very eyes as you get ready for total hedonism with a sip of wine. This is how our ancestors ate...

The desserts are predominantly classic, except crepes with home-reared fig jam and Mojito Panna Cotta. We opted for the classic chocolate crepes and they were something else. This one crepe also had a fig as a surprise. Delicacy of delicacies!

If you’ve never taken a stroll down Nin, you don’t know how beautiful and monumental this city is and what you’re missing out on. Once you blend in the old stone streets and soak in Dalmatian tradition, you’re bound to come back every year. Nin is wonderful, experience it and enjoy a traditional approach to hospitality at the stunning restaurant Stara kužina.
