The interior of Istria is known not only for the excellent winemakers by also for its pretty picturesque villages such as Brtonigla. It’s right here that you will find the Gourmet Restaurant San Rocco with accompanying hotel with possibly< the most beautiful terrace of Istria and further afield. The view of fig and olive trees, and the little pool that is constantly stirring. An oasis of peace. Widely known of, it gives the impression of a Croatian Tuscany…

As in the majority of family-run restaurants, seasonal foodstuffs are also used, so asparagus alternates with truffles, and then in the summer everything moves with full steam and there are no more rules. The wine list is luxurious, with a dozen champagnes and a host of exclusives, whilst samples of some of the famous locals such as Kozlović, Benvenuti, Kabola, Degrassi or Meneghetti will definitively not pass you by. And the continental is also represented quite decently.

However, judging by the starter, it is not only the view that you will remember in San Rocco. Two creams, of cheese and tomatoes, served with three types of homemade rolls of which should be mentioned the green colour. All the dishes were decorated with edible plants and flowers that grow in the gardens nearby and around the restaurant itself. The soup however was not among them, so you can enjoy a decent portion of the fine dishes in which pieces of wild fish are floating. Decent portions, all seasoned with house oil that could, without problem, be on all the important tables of the world.

Of the main courses there are two really colourful things, whether you order the ‘Sea, meadow and forest…’ menu with the recommended wine courses or the somewhat more expensive ‘Scents of spring…’. Awaiting you are crabs, sea urchins, Adriatic calamari sausages, octopus with fresh fennel… The meat has not been overlooked, so there is pork belly, boškarin (Istrian beef) tortellini, pasta, as well as steak prepared in various ways.

The cameras were delighted with the shrimps on a bed of lentils with skuta (ricotta style cheese), and everything is covered with flowers like at a wedding party from a fairy tale. An even better impression was made by the lemon crème with lemon jelly and a sprig of fresh mint. A summer before summer in the wonderful garden from which come the most beautiful fruits of nature. The view lasts forever, really marvellous…

Restaurant description:

The San Rocco Restaurant is a member of the prestigious Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe international association, and belongs at the very top of Croatian gastronomy. The constant research, which is based on tradition, represents a restaurant where the best dishes are Adriatic fish, truffles, mushrooms and everything that the season offers.
The rich wine list contains more than 200 labels, and it also offers Istrian olive oil and in the seasonal menus recommends guests which oil is best suited to the chosen dish.
The interior of the hotel restaurant seats 25 to 30 guests, and in the summer guests can enjoy the outdoor terrace right next to the pool and the park.
