You’ll find Restaurant Dubrovnik and its terrace in one of those streets in Dubrovnik where time stands still reminiscent of long gone centuries, secluded from views and just at the right distance from bustling Stradun and with a high staircase separating it from the rest of the world. The spacious roof is a world in its own right. Starry sky, relaxing jazz and r'n’b make an ideal invitation to have a great romantic night out and forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The story of this revamped Dubrovnik has been going on for about ten years now and during this period the restaurant has managed to position itself as a mix of an a la carte location where you can enjoy a seven-course sample menu with accompanying wines. This is actually the best overview of Dubrovnik’s rather small, but geographically varied offer. As it receives more guests, the restaurant gets more pleasant and welcoming. The well-mannered and loquacious staff deserve a special shout out because they are really second to none.

Chef Dalibor Vidović, a Rijeka native, managed to draw inspiration from entire Croatia and prepare dishes that will cater to every palate. Ceviche is served as a starter. It tastes like the pure sea and abounds in citrus fruits, local vegetables and briskly marinated fish, whereas double vacuum packaged duck breast on a bed of pears and apples with plum and mustard seed sauce, affectionately called Šuma Striborova (Strubor’s Forest), is something completely opposite. These superb combinations are the main reason why they don’t change the menu during the tourist season. The coordinated team is simply playing it safe.

Perfect matching of different wines is a true delight. The wines range from Rizman Pošip to Kosovac Pinot and Principovac ice wine that goes fabulously with fruit minestrone with a scoop of lemon ice-cream. Gigantic shrimp baked in salt make a special surprise. They are brought before you as if they were in some kind of a vault and they’re rinsed in mint water before your eyes and then served. The interesting cauliflower soup with a fried cheese ball, as well as monkfish tripe, a true rarity in Croatia, should also be pointed out. Overall, there’s a lot to discover, see, learn and, thank God, to eat. To finish things off, you have the homemade almond cake with an aromatic chocolate sauce and ice-cream made from this year’s smash hit from Latin America – Tonka. Excellent!

Restaurant Dubrovnik doesn’t fake it, doesn’t pretend and doesn’t want hurried and nervous guests. This is a sanctuary to enjoy and reflect, to contemplate your life purpose surrounded by ancient buildings in the world’s most beautiful city. Take it easy, feel the best Mediterranean flavours while gazing at the starry heaven. Restaurant Dubrovnik definitely deserves to bear its name. Highest recommendations.
