It is nice to see a couple leave a restaurant with a bag of food that they’re taking home. It means that it's worth visiting. Klas in Koprivnica is such a place. It has a hall for business and special occasions that can host more than 100 people, a suitable car park and a small terrace with five tables where a small group can eat comfortably. The atmosphere is added to by the skilled, quick and unobtrusive waiter.

“Would you like to see the menu or something more specific?” he asked with a smile and we began to discuss our options.
Did we want meat, our answer was yes. A choice of chicken/turkey or pork/veal followed, and then suggestions of the actual dishes. The choice of other courses was also similar.

With the fine nettle soup bruschetta with nettles are served, and with the veal steak in a mushroom sauce there come croquettes and nettle medallions. A fruits of the forest sauce is served with the pancakes and ice cream.
They also make gibanica (filo pastry pie) in the shape of orehnjača or makovnjača (walnut and poppy loafs) with nettles, as well as roulade and a pie which they serve with yoghurt. It is part of the special Green Programme, which they diligently prepare during the late spring, when the young nettles are tastiest. And all the dishes made with this very healthy and unjustifiably forgotten foodstuff that we tried were delicious.

There are several dishes on offer in which the local feeling stands out, such as the Drava carpaccio which contains dried ham, green salad leaves, onions, pumpkin seed oil and balsamic vinegar. There is also a Drava style tournedos, the Drava platter for two people, which along with various meats Koprivnica potatoes are also served. Also placed in this group could be the Klas style rump steak, which is served in a pumpkin seed sauce.

They prepare chicken filled with rice and mushrooms or cheese and nettles, and turkey in a lemon and pineapple sauce or coated with potato with a white wine sauce.

Several wines from large wineries are served by the glass, as well as two local, a mixed white sorts plus Cabernet Sauvignon and both are appropriate. They work every day, and on Saturdays they also have live music when the price of the drinks is 20% more.

The Klas Restaurant at Križevačka 64, 4800 Koprivnica, opened in February 1994, and has been working successfully for 15 years.

The varied culinary delicacies from their selection will make your life more beautiful and “sweeter” while the friendly staff will win you over with their smile and perfect service.

The walls of the restaurant are filled with various acknowledgements from the profession. However, according to the words of the owner the greatest acknowledgment and proof of the professionalism and love of gastronomy are the satisfied guests who always return.
