Gatsby Dubrovnik

The moment you leave Dubrovnik’s restaurant and wine bar Gatsby, you’ll find it hard to make sense of your location. That’s because both floors are designed in such a modern, elegant, shiny and incredibly precise way that you might think you’re in a lounge bar in Paris or Tokyo. So after the dazzling first impression, a floor monitor and chairs which could easily be displayed on any architectural show, the only thing left to do is to choose your meat.

You see, Gatsby is a meat mecca, a place for those keen on a great steak. When you skim through the carefully planned out and immaculate menu and price list, you just know in your heart that nothing happens by chance here. The kitchen is fitted with three types of grills in order for every dish to be perfect when it reaches on your table.

The central section in Gastby is occupied by a mirror which further accentuates light and brown colours. Together with gourmet captions on the ceiling written in all of the world’s languages they will build up your appetite even more. Speaking of appetite, you can start building it up by having oysters, tuna Tartare and fish or meat carpaccio. You also have the mini selection of risottos and homemade pasta, as well as gazpacho and the head chef’s daily soup. Just in case. We were in luck to run into the green pea and spinach green soup. A complex and photogenic masterpiece!

Gatsby is all about fresh ingredients so olive oil is obtained from Konavle, with the exception of ice-cream there is no cold storage and no deep fryer. It goes without saying that all fruit and vegetables are fresh and grown locally.

Given that the owner is fond of the bottom line of the movie the Great Gatsby, he named the restaurant accordingly three years ago. The intention is pretty clear. You’ll get great food at a great price here, and they also have superb Croatian wines and some Italian and French ones. We’d like to point out wines from Pelješac (Edino Plavac Mali), Istria, Slavonia, Konavle and so on. Wine is poured by the glass regardless of the price.

Gatsby is definitely a meat place, but they also have fish fillets, monkfish, tuna, salmon, gilthead seabream and sea bass to make things more interesting... Wagyu beef is a rare sight in town with the same breed served as the hit Wagyu burger weighing 220 grams (30% Wagyu beef mixed with two other types of meat). Steaks dominate the menu containing around twenty dishes. You should definitely try beef cheeks served with purée and sweet potato chips. The meat has been roasted for 24 hours. A rhapsody of flavours. Extremely tender, butter, perfection...

They make their desserts, but they don’t exceed two to three dessert types. They mostly have cheesecake, caramel and chocolate cake. But you’re here for the meat prepared in every way imaginable with recipes from around the world but having a local twist to them. Brilliantly decorated, pleasant, professional – Gatsby is a true gentlemen when it comes to restaurants and this is exactly how you’ll feel when you visit it. Heartily recommended.
