Even though the interior with its beautiful aquarium lacks nothing at all, it’s a lot nicer to sit on the terrace by the sea in Zadar’s Foša. The gentle sounds of the music mingle with the lapping of the waves and the cawing of a seagull in love. The old walls on one side of the bay, the blue sea and a mixture of all the world’s languages, along with being constantly full – tell us that it is also May here, which only contributes to the positivity of the pleasant staff.

Foša is a fish restaurant, but there are also dishes for meat lovers, mostly veal, served in many ways - from tenderloin to rump steak. Of course, there are the unmissable prosciutto ham and Pag cheese, which at the beginning of your gastronomic pleasure amplify the already strong Mediterranean feeling. To begin with, the fantastic bruschetta with flavours of the Adriatic, whilst Foša’s trump card are definitely the starters. At least because of their size. A dozen ways to prepare scampi, shrimps, mussels, squid or clams irresistibly attracts you to try them - and we remind that you are only one metre away from the sea!
But the main dish lights up the ambience when you choose among wild fish or those from fish farms, blue, white, John Dory, red scorpionfish. Logically, if there is place where one should eat specialties like spiny lobster or common lobster, then Foša is the right place - clearly, you will have to wait an hour for it. Lava cake and cheesecake complete the story, unless you are intrigued by the homemade sorbet. Very tasty for the end, recommended. As in any true fish restaurant, here too the waiter will bring you the fresh catch on a platter, and fillet the one you select - in front of you.
Although there is a possibility to select the daily menu of 100 or 245 kunas, those who wish to choose will face prices a little bit higher than the average, however the view and the service will greatly compensate for that.
The whole fish story is accompanied by a high quality wine list, although more attention could be paid to wines from the region (only two or three on the list, although the Pošip of the Royal Vineyards is fantastic).

The fish restaurant Foša, embedded in the foothills of the Foša harbor built in the 16th century, is a combination of traditional Dalmatian architecture inspired by contemporary design. The same philosophy is being implemented by the restaurant in the menu of the Foša restaurant as a fusion of tastes of traditional Dalmatian and Croatian dishes with a presentation appearance that follows the contemporary gastronomic trends.
A combination of freshly cooked food with a traditional recipe in the modern kitchen style and the 16th-century interior with an exterior terrace immersed in the sea give a unique blend of enjoyment with all the senses.
The restaurant was fully renovated in 2007 and the reconstruction was in charge of the architectural studio 2A // DVA ARHITEKTA from Zagreb.

Awards and recognitions:

For many years Foša has been amongst the top three restaurants in Dalmatia, and regularly among the top ten in Croatia. Foša has been selected as the third restaurant in Dalmatian region in this year’s choice of the profession. Last year it joined the exclusive Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe international association – baby Michelin.
Chef Damir Tomljanović and his international culinary experience and creative application of acquired knowledge puts his creative freshness in all the meals according to a traditional recipe, where we get a combination of traditional Croatian and Dalmatian cuisine and the cuisine of Mediterranean cuisines.
