Lovrečica near Umag is wonderful when thousands of tourists arrive for swimming in the calm sea and other pleasures of the warm months, but it is also wonderful during the colder period of the year because of one detail. Specifically, summer is ruled by the frenzy for the fruits of the Adriatic – fish, crabs and other shellfish, while in the winter months everything is somehow more tranquil and a far better selection of ingredients is possible. Because of that the restaurant Badi is the ideal place for a pre- or post-season escape for an outstanding fish dinner.

The beautiful story of the Badurina family, whose roots are on the island of Pag, has gone on for thirty years and luckily it has no intention of stopping here. The reason is the pleasant interior, the rich wine list with an emphasis on the strongest Istrian "trumps," outstanding service and of course – the brutally good, fresh seafood. The only meat that you can order is "steak," everything else comes from the Adriatic, about 100 meters away.

Badi is proud of its raw starters, so you can break the ice with a carpaccio of sea bass, švoja (sole), or tuna. However, the queen of the appetizers is the unique dondola, fragrant, fresh, aromatic, and perfect. For a main course it is best to put yourself in the hands of the skilled chef, who will brilliantly prepare what has arrived that day from the fish market.

Veal with caper sauce is an excellent example of how to combine a meat sauce with fish, while Roman-style gnocchi with breaded sole in a demi-glace of veal is an absolute masterpiece – one of the five best dishes in Croatian restaurants in 2016.

Among the desserts you can certainly single out the homemade ice cream with olive oil, the fruit-filled čupavci and definitely the honey cookies (medenjake). A wide selection worthy of praise.

Put yourself in the hands of the eloquent waiter, who will select an appropriate wine. At the end of the meal ask yourself if the Coronica, Clai, Damjanić, or Benvenutti was better. Then walk to the sea to pay homage to its wonderful gifts that the people of Badi know so well how to put on a plate.

The small fishing village of Lovrečica is located halfway between Umag and Novigrad. In this beautiful area you will find the restaurant Badi. Its quality and professionalism have made it one of the 100 best restaurants in Croatia, and it has received awards from both international associations and web portals.

The restaurant opened in 1986. From that time until the present day, it has been managed by the Badurina-Badi family. Because of this family spirit and the outstanding service, Badi has become popular both in Croatia and abroad, proven by its many guests from Italy, Austria, Slovenia, and all of Croatia.

The rich menu emphasizes fish specialties – delicacies of raw fish, shellfish and shrimp – dishes of native Istrian cuisine and a variety of homemade pastas with truffles.
The rich wine list carries the best Istrian wines: Degrassi, Coronica, and Matošević
