A Zagorje snack, a crafty soup and ‘pajcek med jabukami’ are part of the menu of the Academia Restaurant of the Bluesun Hotel Kaj in Marija Bistrica. In this Zagorje snack are pork rind pâté, duck liver, cheese with red peppers, a wine sauce and breadsticks with bacon. The crafty soup is in fact onion, beef with onion sautéed in butter and white wine and toast baked with cheese, and ‘pajcek med jabukami’ is pork belly with apple purée.

Although not on the Internet menu of this Zagorje restaurant, the excellent tuna steak is worth recommending. In general, the Academia Restaurant offers more dishes than is on the menu because just a few metres away is the Bistricza, the other fairly larger restaurant of the same hotel. They share the same kitchen, when there are no crowds, and waiters, so it is clear that they can also share the specialities. There the meals are slightly simpler, somewhat cheaper, but they also play with their names. So they make gnocchi from the hunter's bag with mushrooms, vegetables and sausage.
Their, meaning our risotto is with barley purée, pea purée, broccoli, courgettes and carrots, whilst the dish ‘zagorski sam veseljak’ consists of a skewer of pork tenderloin, a chicken fillet, a pork cutlet, a sausage, a baked potato and crispy bacon.

The selection of wine is very good. On the list are some of the very best wines of the world, in other words very expensive, and here they offer them at almost shop prices.

The whole of Croatia is covered well, but from only the most famous and largest wineries, so there is no room to investigate. There is, nonetheless, place to enjoy wines from a Brač winery, whose owner is the same as the hotel Kaj. Thanks to this, their fine and not really cheap wines here have a very good price and they are all served by the glass.

The service is fast and friendly, however not obtrusive. The waitress successfully balanced two tables in one and three in the other restaurant so that no one felt neglected. Quite the opposite.
