The Ozalj-Vivodina winegrowing region is in Karlovac County. The region is extremely hilly, with a southern exposure, and at 240 m above sea level, it stands out with its favourable agro-ecological conditions for the production of grapes with a high content of sugar ideal for the production of wines of high quality.
From the second half of the 19th century the first records of the development of the production of wine were mentioned in this region. In 1998, the general revitalisation of wine growing and wine production, which included the changing of cultivated wine sorts and the processing of grapes into quality and top wines began.
Also within this rich wine region is the Vrbanek 1881 family agricultural farm whose property has 2.5 hectares of vineyards on which 17,000 grapevine seedlings have been planted. The first serious steps in viticulture were made in the 1990s when famous Croatian wines were successfully placed on the map. Within their farm they produce: Graševina, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Alicante Bouschet. Their wine selection begins with quality wines packaged in 1 l to which they add quality bottles and predicate wines, and it finishes with three sparkling wines that represent the crown of winegrowing.
Apart from the development of the vineyards and expansion of their plantation, the Vrbanek family has also invested in the construction of a new, modern wine cellar with equipment for the controlled fermentation in a cold stabilisation system and the protection of the wine by inert gas.
During a visit to their farm, apart from wine tasting, you can also experience the small world of eco-production where they have also incorporated the production of animal food, the production of bread cereals, as well as the breeding of sheep.
Tradition, experience, love of the development of the farm, in the application of modern technology, are the main guidelines for the development of this farm in which all members take part, with Darko Vrbanek B.Sc. in agronomy at the head.
